Motley is an energetic, fun-loving Australian Cattle Dog mix who would love to find his forever home! He was recently adopted from the Animal Humane Society by a young couple who live in a third story apartment with no yard and they quickly realized that he needs more space, a fenced in yard and other dogs to play with. They are heartbroken that they couldn’t provide the home for him that he deserves and want to give him the best chance at finding his forever family, so he has been in a loving temporary foster home with close relatives while foster placement or adopters can be found.

Motley absolutely loves to play with other dogs, loves to lie in the grass and let the breeze hit his face and can often be found lying on his favorite chaise lounge deck chair while watching the birdies with childlike wonder in his eyes. He is always happy, always smiling and has short spurts of puppy energy until he’s ready to plop down for a nap. When he isn’t playing or napping, he loves to be around his people or dog friends while watching what’s happening out the window, helping his humans do yard work by hauling branches around (and chewing on them), playing fetch or enticing his dog friends into a game of tug-o-war. He still has a strong desire to chew but as long as Nylabones and other appropriate chew toys are made available to him he has not had a problem with chewing on other things once those boundaries are established. Motley loves the homemade dog food that his temporary foster family provides along with a high quality kibble, but he does tend to eat rather quickly so he has been transitioned to a slow feeder which he has done very well with. Motley hasn’t met a dog-approved fruit or vegetable that he doesn’t like and has learned to take treats gently from your hand.

Motley is a quick learner, knows some basic commands and is learning new things every day! He mastered the doggy door leading out to the back yard on his first try! He comes when called and rarely barks. He is potty trained and does not avoid a crate, so far, but his temporary foster mom works from home so there haven’t been many instances where he has needed to be crated. He does choose to sleep in his crate at times during the night and seems to like having that space available to go. Motley currently resides with two other male dogs (a collie mix and a terrier mix) who he loves to play with! He has been around a male cat who visits for days at a time and they have been fine with each other.

Motley is approximately two years old, weighs approximately 55 lbs., he is neutered and up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm prevention and flea and tick prevention. Please help this deserving boy find his forever family!
